This month, the European Investment Bank (EIB) published a provisional EFSI dashboard disclosing the EFSI (European Fund for Strategic Investments) investments by sector. The EIB also published a map which shows where EFSI supported investments can be found.

ESPO is delighted to congratulate the Port of Vigo for achieving PERS certification. The Port of Vigo, which joined the EcoPorts network in 2013, is achieving PERS certification for the third time already. ESPO praises the port company with its commitment to tackle environmental challenges.

PORTOPIA updates

This new section of the ESPO Monthly Overview is dedicated to updates concerning the PORTOPIA project and articles published on the PORTOPIA website. PORTOPIA is a 4-year collaborative research project under the Seventh Framework Program (FP7) of the European Commission, known as the ‘Horizon 2020’ program. The project monitors and reports key performance data for European ports and thus assists the industry in moving towards a more sustainable and competitive port system.

  • New PORTOPIA leaflet

During the ESPO Conference 2017 in Barcelona, the new PORTOPIA leaflet was distributed. It provides an introduction to the PORTOPIA Service Cloud and presents the four PORTOPIA tools that were created to support port performance measurement.

  • Identify and implement environmental indicators in your port

Within the framework of PORTOPIA, the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) has developed a tool for the identification and implementation of Environmental Indicators in Ports (TEIP). TEIP is a computer-based tool that port environmental managers can use to identify Environmental Indicators in their port. The tool can be accessed freely via www.eports.cat/teip.

  • Urban ports and societal integration of port activities

91% of European ports are located in or very close to an urban area. This proximity to urban centres can trigger tensions, so port managers need to proactively manage their relation with the city to secure their ?licence to operate and grow?.
