Associated British Ports (ABP), the UK’s leading ports group, has commenced the roll out of the award-winning Thrive Safety Behavioural Training in the Humber. 142 ABP colleagues have already completed the course at the Thrive Safety Leadership Centre based in Immingham.

Simon Bird, ABP’s Regional Director for the Humber, said:

“‘It is fantastic that this ABP training programme is being launched first in the Humber. As the largest port complex in the UK, with so many moving parts, health and safety is vitally important, and this programme will help us with the excellent safety progress we have made in recent years.”

The roll-out will continue in 2022 with colleagues from ABP’s 21 port locations, and it is planned that over 500 colleagues will take part next year. Launched in 2020, the Thrive Safety Leadership Centre won both the Energy Institute’s 2021 Health & Safety Award and the Gold Award for Best Training Event at the EVCOM London Live and Film Awards, November 2021.

Renewable energy provider Ørsted committed £1.4 million funding to create the purpose-built facility in partnership with training specialists Active Training Team (ATT.) The Thrive Safety Leadership Centre is designed as a legacy project for the Hornsea Two wind farm, enabling other companies and sectors to put their people through the programme.

Dermot Kerrigan, Co-Founder Director of ATT comments: “Our reputation is as innovators in safety leadership. With high-quality production values and industry-leading technology, Thrive is a powerful immersive experience designed to deliver tangible changes in behaviour, attitudes and outcomes.” ATT works with companies across the UK and Europe including the Thames Tideway Tunnel Project, Siemens, BP, Crossrail, and TfL.

ABP’s CEO Henrik Pedersen explains: “ABP is one of the largest employers in the region and the UK’s leading ports group with 21 ports across Britain. Safety is a core value at ABP. The award-winning Thrive Safety Leadership Centre is an integral part of ABP’s Behavioural Safety programme and our commitment to keeping our colleagues safe.”

Dermot Kerrigan, Co-Director of ATT said: “We’re delighted to be able to work with such innovative and forward-thinking organisations as ABP and Ørsted. The Thrive Safety Leadership Centre is here to support the Humber’s burgeoning renewable and maritime sector; we aim to set the benchmark in safety leadership and and welcome enquiries from other organisations who share this aspiration.”
