Photography competition 2020

In partnership with Classic Boat magazine, we are running our 2020 Photography Competition for the eleventh year. This year, we are looking for photographs which celebrate “maritime heritage through the seasons”. How you interpret this theme is entirely up to you. You may have captured a vessel on our registers, a project or activity, a maritime scene, or even the ship’s cat – you choose!

Images can be up to two years old, so take the opportunity to look out some great shots from last season, or, if you live near the water, enter a new photograph taken from your garden, balcony or, (for those able to do so), during your daily walk for exercise.

In addition to the main categories, we are also offering an award given by Classic Boat magazine who will select their favourite entry. The winner will take home a special trophy, and a 2-year subscription to Classic Boat magazine.

We are still running our People’s Choice Award and Weekly winners will be selected via social media and then entered into a final vote to decide the people’s top photo.

Images can be captured by camera, mobile device or drone.

Our judges will be looking for creativity, composition and best fit for the season or category you are representing. Winners will be featured in our annual Calendar, selected for the appropriate calendar month.

All short-listed entrants will be invited to our prestigious award ceremony in London on the 10th November 2020 ( provisional date to be confirmed subject to Covid -19).

The information you give us when you submit an image is kept on our electronic records system and is only accessible to authorised staff.  This personal data is held alongside the relevant images for copyright and acknowledgment purposes.  If you have a question about the way we handle your personal information please contact
