Last week saw the ‘topping off’ of the 50-metre high Northfleet Radar Tower, when a 140-tonne telescopic mobile crane lifted the radar’s top platform into place. The radar currently overseeing Gravesend Reach, one of the busiest stretches of the #Thames for large ships, is on the adjacent Tarmac office building. The tower, our first new freestanding radar tower in 25 years, should be operational before the end of the year and will have a combination of radar, AIS and CCTV fitted to monitor river traffic.
