SUMMARY:Active Bystanders
DESCRIPTION:The BPA’s Council had highlighted that inclusion in the workplace is an area that UK ports might want to look at in terms of their operations and communications. \nThere will be a series four webinars taking place on 24 February and 3/10/24 March from 11:30-13:00. They will be held online using Microsoft Teams and will be recorded\, meaning you can share with colleagues who may not be able to attend the live webinar. The webinars are free to attend for all BPA port and associate members\, for non-members it will cost £20 +VAT per session. \nWhy Inclusion? \nInclusion is a broad subject and is a term that trips off the tongue of many. However\, people have different understandings of what the word means. Many use the word inclusion as an interchangeable one with diversity\, or even equality. Inclusive Employers focus on workplace inclusion and look at inclusion as an overarching culture that encompasses diversity and equality and many other aspects of our working lives. This series of webinars will give you an understanding of why inclusion is essential for people in workplaces to feel valued and to flourish at work. We will explore why inclusion is everyone’s right and responsibility\, and how inclusive work environments benefit everyone. \nWho should attend these webinars? \nThis is not just for HR professionals! Colleagues of all levels and roles interested in improving their understanding about inclusion and making a difference in the work environment. This includes everyone from board level and the executive team\, to middle managers and junior staff from any of your teams. We really hope to have a strong turnout from members and look forward to your support on this. \nWhat are the objectives of this webinar programme? \n  \n\nEquip colleagues with clarity on what inclusion is\nShatter myths and illusions about inclusion and diversity\nEnable colleagues to reflect on the impact of their actions\nOffer colleagues an understanding of unconscious bias and how it impacts on decisions\nEncourage colleagues to have be open to differences\nEncourage colleagues to be inclusion allies.\n\nWebinar 4 – Active Bystanders \nThe psychology of the ‘bystander effect’ has long been explored and discussed. But what does it actually mean and how can this impact progress of creating and maintaining inclusive cultures in our workplaces? If we see or hear moments of exclusion or indeed discrimination\, if we standby and don’t step in\, are we complicit to the actions\, language and behaviours of others? In this 90-minute webinar we’ll explore the idea of ‘active bystanding’ and what we can do to step in\, every time. \nWhat delegates will learn: \n\nUnderstanding the impact of workplace banter and what the law has to say about it\nWhat is the ‘bystander effect’ – exploring the psychology\nThe impact on inclusive workplace culture\nHow we can ‘step in’ and have courageous conversations to make a positive impact\n\nRegister here

SUMMARY:Making inclusion an everyday reality in UK ports
\n  \n\nEquip colleagues with clarity on what inclusion is\nShatter myths and illusions about inclusion and diversity\nEnable colleagues to reflect on the impact of their actions\nOffer colleagues an understanding of unconscious bias and how it impacts on decisions\nEncourage colleagues to have be open to differences\nEncourage colleagues to be inclusion allies.\n\nWebinar 1 – Introduction to inclusion  \n  \n\nWhat is inclusion? What is Diversity?\nWhy they matter in our ports\nWhy difference matters\nThe Equality Act – (Protected Characteristics)\nThis is us\, it’s about all of us\n\n  \n  \n  \n\nRegister here

SUMMARY:Webinar on accelerating action against wildlife trafficking in international maritime supply chains
DESCRIPTION:Save the date: 9 February 2021: Webinar on accelerating action against wildlife trafficking in international maritime supply chains\n\n\n\nA discussion on global wildlife trafficking through maritime transport supply chains as well as how governments\, the IMO and the private sector can take action to combat this transnational organized crime.\n\n\nEvery year\, hundreds of tonnes of illegal wildlife is detected and seized moving into and through East and Southeast Asia via containerized cargo. Although the region is a destination for much of this illicit trade\, Asia also functions as a major entrepot for a range of global trade chains\, which depend on trans- continental transport networks to connect supply and demand. This makes them vulnerable to illicit trade. \nIn this webinar\, you can hear the perspectives of leaders in the shipping industry\, NGOs and government stakeholders about upcoming developments and responses to wildlife trafficking affecting the region. \nThe event is jointly organized by WWF and TRAFFIC in collaboration with the United for Wildlife Transport Taskforce. \nWebinar registration: click here. \nDate: 9 February 2021 \nTime: 8am-9am CET \nSpeakers: \nKanitha Krishnasamy\, Director\, TRAFFIC in Southeast Asia \nMark Watson\, Group Head of Sustainability\, John Swire & Sons (HK) Ltd and Asia Pacific Chair of the United for Wildlife’s Transport Taskforce \nJosephine Uranza\, Regional Coordinator of the International Maritime Organization (IMO)\, Regional Presence for Technical Cooperation in East Asia \nGiovanni Broussard\, Regional Coordinator\, UNODC Global Programme for Combatting Wildlife and Forest Crimes in Southeast Asia \n
