Port Training Services: Apprenticeship Scheme To Deliver On Skills Agenda

A forwarding thinking apprenticeship partnership between Bristol City Council and PTS is to deliver additional, well trained apprentices for The Bristol Port Company.

PTS & Bristol City Council Launch Apprenticeship PartnershipPort Training Services (PTS) is working in collaboration with Bristol City Council to deliver the Level 2 Port Operative Apprenticeship standard to nine apprentices based at Bristol Port.

Over the course of the 15 month project the apprentices will be furnished with the knowledge, skills and competency to excel in their roles at the port, providing them with opportunities to further their careers in the ports sector.

Colin Bassam, Training Manager at PTS, said: “We’re delighted to be collaborating on this project alongside the Bristol Port Company and Bristol City Council. This project is a perfect example of a trailblazer apprenticeship programme, where the quality of the apprenticeship is defined by our industry and therefore serves the specific needs of the employer while also providing the apprentice with the opportunity to thrive in the workplace”.

Bristol City Council has been working in partnership with employers, local training providers and colleges for over 20 years to deliver initiatives that provide local people with skills to develop long-term careers.

Councillor Anna Keen, cabinet member for education and skills, said: “The Port of Bristol is an important partner with its contribution to the local economy and this investment in high quality training sits with our vision of being an inclusive city where no one gets left behind.”

PTS are the training arm of Port of Blyth and were originally formed to fulfil the training requirements for staff at the Northumberland port, but having generated an excellent reputation throughout the sector, now deliver training and apprenticeship programmes for ports across the UK.
