Travelling north east from Fishguard we are now entering Cardigan Bay proper. Past tiny Newport (another confusion!) and the first of 3 harbours in the Welsh county of Ceredigion. Dolphins are the official symbol of Cardigan Bay and New Quay hosts it’s very own pod. They say “When the dolphins leave New Quay, New Quay dies”. Rest assured as we arrived to poke our bow into this tiny drying harbour, sure enough we were met by a wonderful pod of dolphins.
.
We did not stop in New Quay as we had to press on north, but the next day a very friendly Nigel drove to Aberaeron and found us. He came aboard Good Dog wearing his Harbour Master baseball hat…. a souvenir from Eastern USA where it is a brand! .
.
A PS from Wikipedia: Known prior to 1974 as Cardiganshire, during the second half of the first millennium Ceredigion was a minor kingdom. It has been administered as a county since 1282. Welsh is spoken by more than half the population. Ceredigion is considered to be a centre of Welsh culture. .
