Peter, formerly a fisherman, is in his ninth year as HM, which is a council owned harbour. One of the most unusual tasks he has had to organise is a giant Dutch landing craft enter the harbour. It was delivering a huge tank for a milk factory inland and it fitted through his harbour entrance with less than an inch to spare each side.
The famous sailor David Sinnet-Jones lived and built his Joshua Slocock design boat in the town, before being the first disabled solo world circumnavigator. The town was first developed on the back of ship building but of course the building which caught my eye, amongst the beautiful multicoloured montage of houses built by the Rev. Alban Jones Gwynne in 1805, was the bright blue Harbourmaster Hotel. A return visit to the hotel beckons!
