ScaffFloat, specialists in providing safe and versatile floating access solutions, has successfully completed a project demonstrating its expertise in working around piled structures such as piers and jetties.

In collaboration with their partner, Altrad, working for Conoco Philips in Teesside. ScaffFloat engineered a custom 8m x 3m pontoon specifically designed to navigate the challenging environment of a pier’s pile network. By carefully reviewing the pier’s drawings. A ScaffFloat, equipped with twin high-thrust 60hp outboard engines, ensuring exceptional manoeuvrability within the confined spaces between the piles.

A key feature of the bespoke ScaffFloat design was a pile recess integrated into the bow, complete with a boarded inner face to protect the piles during operations. This, combined with a drop-in gate and deck section, provided the team onboard with unobstructed 360-degree access to the piles for blasting and painting works.

To maximise operational efficiency across varying tidal conditions, a Monkey Tower was securely lashed to the deck. This elevated platform provided access above the main deck at low tide, significantly extending the available working time during both neap and spring tides.

This method resulted in significantly faster project completion times compared to the previous system.
