Commenting on the publication of Sir Peter Hendy’s independent Union Connectivity Review, Tim Morris, Chief Executive of the UK Major Ports Group said:

“The recommendations of the Union Connectivity Review to create UKNET – a UK strategic transport network – and that planning for such a network should be done on a multimodal basis are very welcome. These are strategic improvements that UKMPG has been calling for, and our research suggests that more than £14 billion of value can be unlocked by taking such an approach. The UK’s major ports, as gateways for 95% of UK trade, are critical nodes on such a network and we are eager to work with Government in developing the UKNET concept. It is also very welcome that the Union Connectivity Review shines a light on some key specific transport links that are crying out for improvement, such as the A75 in southern Scotland which is a vital artery for Northern Ireland.”
