The Port Equipment Manufacturers Association (PEMA) Joins ISO to Advance Global Standards in Port Equipment

The Port Equipment Manufacturers Association (PEMA) today announced that it has become a member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) (www.iso.org), the world’s leading developer of voluntary international standards.

This membership shares PEMA’s commitment to advancing safety, efficiency, and sustainability in the global port equipment and logistics sectors. As an ISO member, PEMA will contribute industry expertise to the development of international standards that directly impact the design, operation, and performance of port equipment and infrastructure.

We are confident that this partnership will strengthen our collective efforts and contribute significantly to the advancement of international standards,

said Siyuan Tang, Manager, ISO/TC8/SC27.

As an internationally recognised body, ISO develops and publishes standards that ensure quality, safety, and efficiency, across industries worldwide. By joining ISO, PEMA will play an active role in shaping the future of technical standards that directly impact port equipment, terminal operations, and supply chain performance.

This membership marks an important milestone for PEMA and our members,”

said Achim Dries, PEMA President.

“By participating in ISO’s work, we can help shape the global standards that will guide the future of port equipment, ensuring safer, smarter, and more sustainable operations worldwide.”

PEMA’s involvement will enhance collaboration between equipment manufacturers, operators, and global stakeholders while supporting innovation and the adoption of new technologies.

Key benefits of PEMA’s ISO membership include:

● Influence in global standard-setting relevant to port equipment and logistics.

● Stronger industry collaboration with international partners and regulators.

● Support for sustainability goals through standards that reduce environmental impact.

● Improved safety and efficiency for port and terminal operations worldwide.

Through this initiative, PEMA reaffirms its role as the collective voice of the port equipment industry, working to ensure that global standards reflect the needs and priorities of its members and the wider maritime community.
