The very best of the UK’s maritime sector were celebrated at last night’s Maritime UK Awards in Glasgow.

Hundreds of maritime businesses gathered for an awards ceremony hosted by RTS Scotland award-winning broadcaster, Jennifer Reoch, at the Glasgow Science Centre on the banks of the River Clyde.

Fourteen awards were given out at the third annual Maritime UK awards, which celebrate organisations and individuals from the entire spectrum of the sector – from leisure marine to shipping, professional services to ports, and engineering to science and technology.

The awards ceremony featured contributions from the Secretary of State for International Trade, Anne-Marie Trevelyan MP as well as the Minister for Maritime, Robert Courts MP.

For the second time, the awards embraced the Department for Transport’s Clean Maritime Awards, which were established to recognise the progress being made by the sector to get to net-zero emissions. These awards recognised operators, companies innovating new solutions and those helping enable others to make progress through collaboration, financing, or provision of services.

Maritime UK’s Charity Partner for the awards was The Seafarers’ Charity.

The winners, selected by an expert panel of judges from across the maritime sector, were:

“Congratulations to all our fantastic winners, and to all those that were shortlisted by the judges. These organisations are helping to play a primary role in realising the UK’s ambition to become the world’s most competitive maritime centre by 2050.

“Thank you to all of our judges and sponsors for helping make this year’s awards so successful, and to the great city of Glasgow for hosting us so well.

“Right now, maritime in the UK is a sector with real momentum, and you could feel that last night. The task before us is to build upon our recent success, and I look forward to seeing what further progress the sector is making when we meet next year in Hull!”

The 2022 Maritime UK Awards were supported by the Royal Navy, Malin Group, Associated British Ports, University of Strathclyde, Port of London Authority, National Shipbuilding Office, Artemis Technologies, Department for International Trade, Trinity House, City of Glasgow College, BAE Systems, Nautilus International, Aberdeen Harbour Board, Bibby Marine and the Department for Transport.

As part of the evening’s event, it was also announced that the 2023 Maritime UK Awards will be taking place in Hull, a significant maritime region through which a quarter of all maritime trade passes. The region is positioned as the UK’s energy estuary servicing offshore wind, which features the new green port Hull. In an effort to showcase the strength of the maritime sector across every corner of the UK, the awards are held in a different maritime region every year.
